FAQ

What is the difference between a chef & a cook?

A chef is someone who prepares food for others. A cook prepares food for himself or herself. A chef, on the other hand, works directly with customers. This means that they can have to decide what food to serve customers based their preferences. A cook doesn't need to interact with clients. He or she makes sure that the food is delicious before serving it.

What should a beginning cook learn first?

Beginners should begin cooking simple dishes like soup, pasta, and rice. If you want to learn how to cook, go for a recipe book or YouTube video. Cooking with others is more enjoyable. You can cook together as a family or with friends.

Do I need to go to culinary school to be a chef?

No. No. Many chefs began their careers learning by themselves. Some even went on to culinary school to gain work experience. But most chefs prefer culinary school as it offers them more opportunities for learning and growth. Culinary schools offer hands-on training which allows students to improve their skills and knowledge of cooking.

How to make the perfect omelet

Omelets are a favorite breakfast food of mine. But how do you create them perfectly? Many different recipes and methods have failed to work for me. Today, I'd like to share some tips with you in order to make delicious and fluffy omelets every day.

Before we start making omelets, let's remember that eggs are temperamental. It is important that eggs are fresh from an organic market and kept cool until used. If they are not kept cold enough, the whites won’t form properly. The yolks will also break down too quickly and become runny. Your omelets will look strangely colored if this happens. If you want to make omelets right away, it's best not to use eggs that are too cold.

You might also try separating the egg before adding to the pan. You don't want the white to get mixed with the yolk, as this could cause the egg to curdle.

You might burn the bottom of the egg if you place the egg directly on the stovetop. This could ruin the texture of your omelet. Instead, heat the egg in a microwave for 10 seconds and then place it in a pan. The microwave heat cooks the eggs just right without overcooking them.

Let's now talk about mixing eggs. You want to mix the eggs thoroughly before you add them. Turn the bowl upside down and grab the whisk to do this. Then shake the bowl vigorously. The egg will be thoroughly mixed in the bowl as the air is whipped.

The fun part begins - you need to pour the milk into your mixture. First, pour half of the milk into the beaten eggs and then fold the eggs gently into the remaining milk. Do not be alarmed if there are still egg streaks visible. Once the omelet flips, these streaks will disappear.

After you have folded your eggs, heat up the oil on medium heat. Wait for it to get hot. Once the oil has gotten hot, add 1/4 cup of butter and swirl it around so that the entire pan is coated. Carefully open the pan's lid and add salt to the pan. A pinch of salt will help prevent the omelet from sticking to the pan.

Once the omelet has formed, cover the pan again and wait for the top side to set completely. Flip the omelet with a spatula, or flip it upside down. Cook the other side for about a minute. Take the omelet out of the pan and immediately serve.

This recipe works best with whole milk, but skimmed milk also works.
